The World Meetei Council (WMC) has condemned the meeting scheduled for September 28 at the City Convention Centre in Imphal, expected to be attended by Minister Govindas Konthoujam.
In a joint release, WMC leaders from various regions expressed their discontent, alleging that the Manipur government is overly influenced by the central government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The statement criticized the state government for neglecting the wellbeing of the people.
The council, led by Chairman Heigrujam Nabashyam, emphasized its ongoing efforts to secure Constitutional protection for the Meeties before the 2026 delimitation. It condemned attempts to disrupt its initiatives and tarnish its reputation, which it claimed were backed by certain state ministers.
The WMC called on the state government to address the prevailing crisis and urged the two ministers involved to withdraw their participation in actions undermining public interest.
