In a distressing incident, a woman from Assam was hospitalized in the national capital after allegedly being assaulted under false pretenses of employment.
According to reports from media outlets, the victim was offered a job as a housemaid in Delhi by a man named Ajit. However, upon her arrival, she was taken to a residence where she faced harassment and physical assault.
The victim, a resident of Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district, was accommodated in a house shared by the owner and his tenant upon reaching Delhi.
Details from the First Information Report (FIR) provided by the victim indicate that she resided on the third floor of the building where the assault occurred. Subsequently, an altercation ensued when the perpetrators began recording her pictures and videos, leading to the victim’s fall from the third floor and sustaining injuries to her head and hand.
Prompted by the altercation, a passerby called the police, leading to the prompt arrival of a PCR vehicle, which rescued the victim and transported her to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital (BJRM). Following preliminary treatment, she was transferred to Lok Nayak Hospital for further care.
Dr. Ghritashri Bhuyan Narula, Coordinator of the Special Police Unit for North East (SPUNER), New Delhi, reported that the police have arrested the tenant, while the main accused remains at large. The coordinator further stated that a distress call was made from Bhalswa Dairy, Outer Delhi Police Station, prompting an investigation.
