A dismembered body of an unidentified woman was discovered in a drain along IB Road, opposite Lamka Central High School, around 7 a.m. on Monday.
Churachandpur police reported that the unclothed and decomposing body was found by a shop owner and local residents who were attempting to clear a blocked drain in front of the shop.
The drain, approximately two feet wide, revealed the grisly scene. Police transported the remains to the District Hospital Morgue.
The body had several missing parts, including the nose and ears, making identification difficult. It is believed the body was placed there the previous night, as the area is a busy market during the day.
Authorities have registered an Unnatural Death Case No 2/CCP-WPS/2024 under section 174 CrPC at Churachandpur Police Station. A forensic team from Imphal has been called to determine the cause of death and other details.
As of this report, no one has claimed the body.
