Tragically, Sagolsem Loya (25), a village volunteer from Pukhao Shantipur, lost his life in the line of duty. Simultaneously, one Kuki militant, identified as Demkhogin Khongsai (39), was killed, and three others sustained injuries in the ongoing confrontation. Further intensifying the situation, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Indian Army sustained a bullet injury but is reportedly in stable condition while undergoing treatment at Leimakhong military hospital.

At least seven Meetei village volunteers sustained injuries in the gunfight at Pukhao Shantipur, with six admitted to Raj Medicity and one to Shija hospitals in Langol. The escalating clashes prompted additional mobilization of village volunteers and Meira Paibis to Pukhao Shantipur, underscoring the gravity of the security situation.
Simultaneously, Kuki militants launched a separate attack on Thamnapokpi village in Lamlai police station, eliciting a robust response from vigilant village volunteers. In the ensuing gun battle, a woman suffered injuries from a bomb explosion, while a JCO of 20 Jat Regiment sustained a bullet injury. Fortunately, the JCO is reportedly out of danger and is currently receiving medical attention at Leimakhong military hospital.
The clashes prompted the deployment of the Indian Army, which temporarily blocked the Imphal-Ukhrul road at Nongada, leading to tensions with local Meira Paibis and women who protested against the blockade.
Additional reports of Kuki militant attacks emerged from Singda and Kadangband Part 1 in Imphal West district, resulting in injuries to a village volunteer and a local woman. Kadangband Part 2 also witnessed a targeted attack, culminating in another intense gun battle. In Senjam Chirang, located in Imphal West district, Kuki militants launched an attack, although there were no reported casualties in this instance.
Amidst the escalating violence, the Indian Army conducted a trial landing of helicopters, exploring their potential utility in emergency situations given the recurring attacks originating from hilltops. The security situation remains precarious, with security forces actively engaged in efforts to restore order and safeguard the affected areas.
This unfortunate spate of violence underscores the pressing need for concerted efforts to address the root causes and find lasting solutions to prevent further bloodshed in the region. The local populace remains on edge as authorities work tirelessly to mitigate the immediate threats and initiate a comprehensive strategy for lasting peace and stability in Manipur.
