The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) expressed concerns on Thursday regarding the BJP-led government concealing information about the funding of Electoral Bonds.
N Bupenda, the spokesperson for MPCC, addressing the media at Congress Bhavan in Imphal, highlighted recent events related to the Supreme Court’s decision on the Electoral Bonds Scheme and actions taken by the State Bank of India (SBI).
Following the Supreme Court’s directive to disclose information about electoral bonds, SBI filed an application seeking an extension until June 30, citing challenges in managing data. Bupenda criticized the delay, asserting it shields BJP’s financial irregularities and corporate ties.
“Why the extensive delay when SBI is fully digitized?” he questioned, asserting, “SBI can decode and compile data within a day.”
He accused the BJP of disproportionately benefiting, purportedly receiving 55% of the total contributions to electoral bonds. Bupenda raised concerns about fairness and transparency, contending it undermines democracy.
Emphasizing the need for transparency in upcoming elections, he stressed the public’s right to information influencing political decisions. Urging the Modi government to adhere to the Supreme Court’s verdict, Bupenda asserted transparency is essential for democratic principles and fair elections.
