In a troubling incident, armed assailants opened fire on the vehicle of Moirangthem Totomsana, a candidate for Inner Manipur’s parliamentary seat in the 18th Lok Sabha elections. The attack took place in Wangbal part II Thongjao, Thoubal district, around 11 pm on Saturday. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported.
Sources indicate that Totomsana was being followed by the armed miscreants as he returned home from Wangbal to Heirok, accompanied by his security escort.
Allegedly, the assailants intercepted Totomsana’s car in Wangbal part II Thongjao, engaging him in conversation before firing three to four gunshots at his unregistered Alto vehicle. They then fled the scene.
Details of the exchange between Totomsana and the perpetrators remain undisclosed. However, Totomsana reportedly instructed his security team not to retaliate against the attackers. Following the incident, the police retrieved Totomsana’s abandoned Alto car.
