Despite the state government’s inability to locate the bodies of the two Kuki-Zo volunteers killed in the Phailengmol region of Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi District, on April 13, CoTU has resolved to conduct their burial ceremony on May 24 in accordance with the traditions and customs of the Kuki-Zo community.

CoTU general secretary Lamminlun Singsit remarked that the failure to recover the bodies after a month underscores the profound division between the communities. Consequently, the decision was made to proceed with the burial ceremony to honor the two fallen heroes.

Detailing the plans for the ceremony, Singsit stated that the Kuki-Zo community across Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District will inter the deceased at the Martyrs Cemetery in Phaijang on May 24, bestowing the highest honors and tributes.

As a mark of respect, a total shutdown will be enforced from 9 am to 6 pm on May 24, with all government and private institutions in the district remaining closed.

Singsit also appealed to the public to understand the sentiments of the Kuki-Zo community and to be supportive during the total shutdown.
