Officials have provided details on the devastating impact of heavy rainfall, resulting in deadly floods claiming three lives and affecting thousands. Among the casualties reported is a 34-year-old man who tragically perished in a landslide in Senapati district. Additionally, an 83-year-old woman drowned in the swollen Senapati river, while a 75-year-old man in Imphal succumbed to electrocution during the downpour.
The floods have submerged numerous areas in the Imphal Valley, prompting residents to seek refuge in community halls. In Imphal West district, reports indicate flooding in at least 86 areas, including Khuman Lampak, Nagaram, Sagolband, Uripok, Keisamthong, and Paona Bazar, due to the overflowing Nambul River. Furthermore, incessant rainfall has breached the banks of the Imphal River in several areas of Imphal East district, resulting in the inundation of homes.
In response to the crisis, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has sprung into action, deploying a team via a special Air Force flight to spearhead rescue operations. The situation remains dire as authorities work tirelessly to assist those affected by the devastating floods.
