Students at Dhanamanjuri University staged a protest on June 13, expressing dissatisfaction with the planned semester examination format.
During the demonstration, benches and desks were set ablaze in front of the university’s administrative block.
Demands included the appointment of a new vice-chancellor and registrar, as well as the switch to online exams for the December 2023 semester due to ongoing crisis-related delays.
A student spokesperson cited delays linked to the crisis, accusing university authorities of proposing an exam mode against student wishes.
Insisting on online exams for all, protesters criticized the administration’s response.
“There’s inconsistency in departmental exam administration,” noted a student, highlighting disparities between offline and online exams at designated centers.
The university’s student union issued a stern warning of escalating protests if their demands were not met.
Tensions rose at the administrative building, leading to police deployment to manage the demonstrators.
