Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the first budget of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third term in Parliament on Tuesday. The budget drew criticism for not addressing the needs of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Manipur.
Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam highlighted the omission on social media platform X, noting the absence of any mention of Manipur in Sitharaman’s budget presentation. “Absence thy name is Manipur, that’s the budget speak! Nothing on flood and rehabilitation package for IDPs in the state!” Akoijam wrote.
This budget presentation marks Sitharaman’s seventh consecutive budget and the first significant economic document of the Modi 3.0 government. Akoijam had previously garnered attention for his maiden speech to Parliament concerning the Manipur crisis.
