Security forces have intensified search operations and established control in the vulnerable fringe areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts.
During these operations, they recovered an array of items, including a locally made Pompi Mortar, an SMG carbine with a magazine, a .303 Rifle with a magazine, an IED weighing approximately 1.5 kilograms, two Mortar ILLU shells with covers, five 36 HE Grenades, six Detonators, a Telescopic Sight, a Tube Launching Grenade, and twelve live ammunition rounds from Terakhongshangbi Santhong Gap in Bishnupur District.
On June 7, the brutal murder of a 59-year-old resident of Sorok Atingbi Khunou on June 6 sparked widespread tension and fear in the Jiribam district.
This violent incident has triggered a series of subsequent violent events, forcing residents of Mongbung Khul to abandon their homes in search of safety. They have sought refuge at the LP School in Chingdong Leikai, highlighting the urgent need for protection.
Adding to the turmoil, reports have surfaced of arson attacks targeting residential properties. A house in Nunkhal and a farmhouse in Leisabithol were set ablaze by unidentified individuals, further exacerbating the sense of insecurity among residents.
Jiribam, known for its diverse population, has traditionally been a peaceful area. However, the recent surge in violence has shattered this calm, prompting authorities to impose Section 144 in an effort to restore order and tranquillity.
