In a decisive maneuver, security forces struck a significant blow against the illicit extortion enterprise spearheaded by the outlawed National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM) through the apprehension of a proactive member in Imphal on the 7th of May.
The detained insurgent, identified as Heisnam James Singh alias Kumar, aged 33, was apprehended from the vicinity of Lamphel RIMS Road near the RIMS Gate.
Singh’s apprehension ensued in the wake of a rigorous crackdown on the outfit’s extortion ventures in the Imphal vicinity. During the operation, law enforcement officials retrieved a two-wheeled vehicle and a cellular device from Singh’s possession.
The modus operandi of the NRFM cadre revolved around coercing funds from various individuals and establishments across the state capital, instilling a climate of fear and intimidation.
Security forces have escalated their operations against the proscribed factions operating in the area, tightening the net around their unlawful activities that pose a threat to peace and stability.
