A security alert has been issued in Manipur based on information from Chief Minister N. Biren Singh regarding the infiltration of over 900 Kuki militants from Myanmar. The alert highlights the potential for coordinated attacks on Meitei villages.

On Tuesday, a letter from the Chief Minister’s Office directed the Director General of Police (DGP) of Manipur to take necessary measures against the threat posed by Kuki militants. The militants, reportedly trained in drone-based warfare, are expected to launch attacks around September 28.

The authenticity of the initial letter was confirmed on Thursday when another message from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Thoubal was issued. This message directed local police to enhance security measures, citing a directive from the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for Law and Order.

Recent attacks by Kuki militants include a drone bomb assault on Koutruk village, resulting in one fatality and an injury. Other incidents involved the use of long-range rockets and sniper rifles, causing deaths and injuries in various locations across Manipur.

The ongoing conflict between Kuki militants and Meitei villagers has led to significant casualties and displacement since May 2023. Over 235 individuals have been killed, and more than 60,000 displaced as a result of the violence.

The latest security measures underscore the heightened state of alert in Manipur as authorities respond to credible threats of militant attacks. The situation remains tense, with efforts focused on preventing further violence and ensuring the safety of residents.
