In a fervent address during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Amethi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday laid the blame on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of deliberately “sowing enmity.” As the political landscape heats up in anticipation of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, Kharge boldly predicted a setback for the saffron party.
In his incisive critique, Kharge expressed skepticism about the BJP’s electoral prospects, dismissing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ambitious goal of securing over 400 seats. Dissecting the BJP’s slogan of ‘Abki baar, 400 paar,’ Kharge emphatically stated, “Though the BJP claims that it will gain over 400 seats, it won’t be able to cross 100 seats. Abki baar, Satta se bahar (this time, they will be ousted from power).”
Turning his attention to the local front, Kharge accused the BJP of derailing development projects in Amethi and Rae Bareli. He raised pertinent questions about the status of projects sanctioned during the Congress’s tenure, highlighting the apparent lapse in their completion. Kharge alleged a broader conspiracy by the BJP, accusing them of deliberately sowing seeds of animosity among the people of Rae Bareli and Amethi, claiming that the party’s intentions were not aligned with the regions’ progress.
Kharge took a swipe at Prime Minister Modi, stating, “Modiji would come here and accuse the Congress party of halting projects. Tell me what are you doing now. The public will give a befitting reply to this.”
Painting Amethi as the political crucible where the Gandhi family, including Rajeev Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Rahul Gandhi, toiled diligently, Kharge evoked the deep-rooted connection between the people and the Gandhi family. He expressed confidence that the electorate would respond with due consideration for their historical association.
Highlighting recent political developments, Kharge acknowledged former party chief Sonia Gandhi’s strategic move as she filed her nomination for the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan. The shifting dynamics were further underscored by the BJP’s victory in Amethi in 2019 when Smriti Irani unseated Rahul Gandhi by a margin of approximately 55,000 votes. The unfolding political drama in this historical turf promises to shape the narrative as the election fervor intensifies.
