Rajya Sabha MP and titular king of Manipur, Leishemba Sanajaoba, has proposed the implementation of a common uniform for hawkers throughout Manipur to improve their identification and safety.
Sanajaoba presented this suggestion during the 43rd Hawker Day Celebration hosted by the Manipur Hawkers’ Association (MHA) at Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple in Imphal on Sunday.
The event included paying tributes to deceased members, distributing pensions to retired members, and awarding certificates to donors who have supported the association.
In his address, Sanajaoba commended hawkers for their dedication in ensuring newspapers are delivered to subscribers across the state, despite adverse conditions. He highlighted the essential role hawkers play in maintaining the flow of information and emphasized their importance in a well-informed society.
Sanajaoba also proposed the establishment of a common gathering point for hawkers who travel from various regions to collect newspapers. He expressed his commitment to supporting the construction of such a facility, contingent upon finding a suitable location.
The celebration was attended by Wangkhem Ajit Singh, president of the Manipur Hawkers’ Association, and M Shivadutta Luwang, member secretary of the Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board.
