Election officers in their respective districts have urged all political parties, candidates, and voters to adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) enforced with the announcement of the 18th Lok Sabha Election in 2024 by the Election Commission of India.

It is strongly advised not to carry more than Rs 50,000 in cash or above, as it may be used to influence or bribe voters.

Transporting contraband drugs or illicit liquor of any sort is strictly prohibited. District administrations and the Police Department are mobilizing various personnel, including Flying Squad Teams and Static Surveillance Teams, to combat such illicit activities.

Under Section 123(2) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, any direct or indirect interference or attempt to interfere with the free exercise of electoral rights by a candidate, their agent, or any other individual is considered a corrupt practice.

According to Section 171 B of the Indian Penal Code, individuals giving or accepting gratification in cash or kind during the election process to influence others’ voting decisions face imprisonment for up to one year or a fine, or both.

Similarly, under Section 171 C of the Indian Penal Code, any undue presence or threat directed at candidates or voters during the election process is punishable by imprisonment for up to one year or a fine, or both. The District Administration has established a ‘Seizure of Cash Committee’ and urged Monitoring Teams stationed across various locations to report any violations to designated authorities promptly.

District Control Rooms are being established to monitor adherence to the Model Code of Conduct and to swiftly address any reported violations.

Moreover, citizens can utilize the district toll-free helpline number 1950, the CVigil Citizen App, and the ECI website to lodge complaints or grievances.
