The Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the National Unity Government, Republic of the Union of Myanmar, released a communique on Tuesday outlining directives for Myanmar citizens seeking refuge in India amidst security concerns in their homeland.
As per the Myanmar administration, the guidelines, issued on June 15, 2023, underscore several critical points aimed at fostering positive relations with the host nation and safeguarding the welfare of Myanmar expatriates residing in India.
The directive calls upon Myanmar nationals to abstain from any actions that might undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of India. It urges caution and refraining from involvement in political and administrative affairs, such as election campaigns and regional conflicts. Furthermore, it emphasizes the prohibition of any involvement in illegal trafficking activities, including drugs and wildlife, and advocates for mutual respect, harmony, and adherence to local customs and religious practices.
Additionally, Myanmar nationals are advised to cooperate with relevant governmental bodies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in India, particularly in border regions, to ensure security and stability during emergencies, encompassing health and social crises.
In situations of adversity, Myanmar citizens are encouraged to seek aid from civil society groups and philanthropic organizations assisting Myanmar refugees, and if necessary, approach the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for further assistance.
Moreover, Myanmar-based civil society and philanthropic organizations aiding Myanmar refugees are requested to disseminate this notification to pertinent religious entities, refugee settlements, local communities, and civic organizations.
