New evidence has surfaced indicating the use of drone bombings in the ongoing Manipur crisis. The Bomb Disposal Squad of the CID (Tech) discovered tail fins and fuse materials of aerial bombs near Koutruk Ching Leikai Church in Imphal West, contradicting earlier denials by former Assam Rifles DG Lt Gen PC Nair and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi.
The Bomb Disposal Squad was called to the site following reports of suspicious objects. The team recovered the tail ends of aerial bombs, featuring rings used for drone deployment. The bombs, lacking primers and propelling charges, appeared locally made.
Lt Gen PC Nair and General Dwivedi previously dismissed claims of drone bombings by Kuki militants as misinformation. However, the recent findings undermine these statements and suggest aerial attacks on Meitei villages.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken over the probe into the drone attacks, requesting related documents and evidence from the Manipur police. The investigation follows an incident in Imphal West where a woman was killed and several others injured.
The crisis has seen escalated violence, including rocket attacks by Kuki militants, resulting in fatalities and injuries. The state government has established a high-level committee to investigate these attacks comprehensively.
