The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has responded to the allegations made by BJP against its election manifesto and has also decided to file a complaint with the Election Commission against the Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur if he fails to take action against the BJP for violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by gathering a large number of women at the Chief Minister’s residence and offices.
During a press briefing at Congress Bhavan today, MPCC president K Meghachandra stated that the BJP is attempting to depict the Congress party in a negative light by making false statements about its election manifesto to secure victory in the election.
“It is absurd,” Meghachandra remarked regarding the alleged misinterpretation of the Congress manifesto by the BJP.
The trait of misleading people is characteristic of the BJP, the MPCC chief continued, adding that there is nothing inappropriate about the Congress party’s decision to establish a Reconciliation Commission to address the crisis in Manipur in a manner that is agreeable to all parties involved.
Meghachandra further asserted that the Congress party’s election manifesto does not propose granting separate administration to any group and accused the BJP of utilizing paid YouTube channels to misrepresent the Congress party.
Meghachandra continued by stating that despite lodging a complaint against the alleged violation of MCC, the CEO of Manipur has not taken any action against the BJP, prompting them to file a complaint with the Election Commission of India (ECI) against the CEO of Manipur.
Congress candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary seat, Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, emphasized that it would be highly inappropriate for any party to believe they can secure votes by spreading falsehoods.
Bimol Akoijam, who represents the INDIA bloc, highlighted two key phrases in the Congress party’s election manifesto targeted by the BJP: “Reconciliation Commission” and “satisfactory to all the people of the State.”
Asserting that the Reconciliation Commission aims to address violence and promote lasting peace in Manipur through a forward-thinking approach, he questioned whether establishing such a commission and resolving the crisis in Manipur could be deemed wrong.
He added that there is no provision in the Congress party’s election manifesto that poses a threat to the integrity of the state.
Bimol Akoijam urged the BJP to refrain from misinterpreting the Congress party’s election manifesto, clarifying that the settlement advocated by the party is one that is acceptable to all parties involved.
He reminded that the Congress party also supported the resolution passed during the recent Assembly session to update and implement the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur, clarifying that Congress MLAs in Manipur do not oppose the NRC.
