Assam Police apprehended a member of a Manipur-based terrorist gang on Friday at the Sonapur toll gate on National Highway 27. The suspect, identified as Khaigoulen Kipgen, aged 27, is the son of Hensat Kipgen from Gamngai village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district. Authorities discovered equipment that could potentially be used for sabotage activities.
Inspector General of Police (Special Task Force) Assam, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, disclosed in a video statement that the arrest followed a tip-off from a central intelligence agency. According to Mahanta, the terrorist group from Manipur had been attempting to procure materials for possible sabotage operations.
A team from the special task force detained Khaigoulen early Friday morning while he was traveling along NH-27. During the search, police found 10 TB30 Intelligent Flight Batteries, suspected to be intended for use with drones, cash amounting to Rs 3,40,000, four pairs of shoes, and a mobile handset.
Upon interrogation, Khaigoulen confessed that he was transporting the equipment to Manipur via Guwahati and was accompanied by two minors at the time of his arrest. He has since been taken into custody, and a case has been registered for further investigation.
The arrest has rapidly gained traction on social media, with numerous posts identifying Khaigoulen as a close relative of Nemcha Kipgen, the commerce and industry minister of the Manipur government. Notably, Nemcha Kipgen is one of the 10 Kuki-Zo MLAs advocating for a separate administration in Manipur.
