Supriya Devi Thokchom of Manipur secured a silver medal at the World U19 Boxing Championships held in Colorado, USA. Thokchom competed in the 54kg category, where she faced Caitlyn Wise of the USA in the final bout, ultimately losing by unanimous decision.
The championships, which took place from October 25 to November 3, 2024, saw participation from young athletes worldwide, showcasing their boxing prowess. Thokchom’s performance has been widely lauded, marking a significant achievement for Indian boxing on an international platform.
Manipur MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba congratulated Thokchom on social media, expressing pride in her accomplishment. His message highlighted the dedication and hard work displayed by Thokchom throughout the tournament.
In addition to Thokchom’s success, the Indian boxing team celebrated an impressive haul of 17 medals, including notable victories by Parthavi Grewal, Vanshika Goswami, and Hemant Sangwan. Grewal triumphed in the women’s 65kg final, Goswami dominated the women’s +80kg category, and Sangwan secured a gold in the men’s 90kg category.
