The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur, Pradeep Kumar Jha, has officially published the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls for 2025. This comprehensive roll covers all 60 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in the state, reflecting efforts to update and verify voter information ahead of the upcoming elections.
The newly released draft shows a slight increase in the gender ratio, now standing at 1069 females per 1000 males, compared to 1068 in the 2024 rolls. The total electorate has also grown to 20,34,660, marking a net increase of 8037 voters from the previous year.
Jha emphasized the importance of accurate and inclusive electoral rolls, noting that the special summary revision of the photo electoral rolls will be conducted with the final publication scheduled for January 6, 2025. This revision aims to ensure that all eligible voters, especially new voters and those who have been displaced, are accurately represented.
The period for filing claims and objections is set from October 29 to November 28, 2024. During this time, citizens can submit applications for new enrollments, deletions, corrections, and transfers of voter details. To facilitate this process, the Election Commission has organized special campaigns on November 9, 10, 23, and 24, 2024.
Citizens can submit their applications both online and offline, making the process more accessible. The CEO urged all eligible voters, particularly the youth and internally displaced persons, to take advantage of these campaigns to ensure their inclusion in the electoral rolls.
The publication of the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls is part of a broader initiative to enhance voter participation and ensure the accuracy of the electoral database. The Election Commission of Manipur is actively working to address challenges related to voter registration and verification, particularly in regions with high mobility and displacement.
Efforts are being intensified to enroll new voters, with a focus on young adults who have recently reached voting age. Additionally, the commission is taking steps to ensure that internally displaced people, who may have faced difficulties in maintaining consistent documentation, are included in the rolls.
The release of the Draft Photo Electoral Rolls for 2025 marks a significant step in Manipur’s preparations for the upcoming elections. The inclusive approach and emphasis on accuracy reflect the state’s commitment to a fair and democratic electoral process. As the final rolls are set to be published in January, the ongoing revisions and public participation will play a crucial role in shaping the voter base for the 2025 elections.
