Sub-Inspector Md Shah Jahan, who was fatally shot by a fellow officer, was laid to rest with full police honors on Monday in Yairipok. The body was released from the JNIMS morgue after an agreement between the Joint Action Committee (JAC) and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh.
The incident occurred on October 2 in Mongbung village, Jiribam district, where Constable Akoijam Bikram allegedly used his service rifle to kill SI Jahan. The motive remains unknown, leaving the community and the police force in shock.
JAC convenor Makakmayum Fayasafar stated that the body was released only after the chief minister assured that their demands would be met. These demands include the immediate dismissal of Constable Bikram, formal charges within two months, a government job for the deceased’s wife, ex-gratia support, and continued salary for Jahan’s family.
Constable Bikram has been suspended by the Office of the SP Jiribam and is stationed at Reserve Lines, pending further investigation. He will receive a subsistence allowance during this period.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.
