In a swift turn of events, Manipur police have successfully apprehended two individuals allegedly connected to the vicious assault on Kangpokpi Police personnel at Koirengei last Saturday.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Taibanganba Sanoujam (25), son of S Tondang Singh of Heingang Makha Leikai, and Moirangthem Bobo (40), son of the late M Lukhoi of Thengra Leirak, Churachandpur.
Although detailed information remains limited, it is worth noting that a zero FIR was lodged at Kangpokpi Police Station and subsequently transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
The brazen abduction and brutal physical attack on four police personnel from the Village Defence Force (VDF), stationed at Kangpokpi Police Station, have garnered widespread condemnation from various quarters, including the Kangpokpi District VDF Welfare Association and the Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills.
According to statements issued by the Kangpokpi District Village Defence Force Welfare Association, the four VDF personnel were carrying out official duties in Imphal on May 11, 2024.
Regrettably, their journey back to Kangpokpi was interrupted when armed miscreants, believed to be from the Meitei community, intercepted their vehicle at Koirengei, where they were subjected to a vicious assault.
The Kuki Students’ Organisation Sadar Hills has vehemently denounced the incident and raised questions regarding the response of the central government to such heinous acts.
