A combined team of Manipur police and the Indian Army recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from Kangpokpi and Imphal East districts during a 72-hour joint operation.
According to a press statement from the Indian Army, the operation was launched on Wednesday based on specific intelligence regarding the presence of arms and ammunition in the Chanung Top area of Imphal East District. The operation, which lasted 72 hours, involved the use of patrol dogs and explosive detection dogs, leading to the significant recovery.
The combined team seized 13 long-range mortars, four Burmese iron rod improvised explosive devices (IEDs), one modified grenade launcher, one G3 rifle, six .303 rifles, one .22 pistol, a grenade, 25 locally made IEDs, 115 rounds of ammunition, three magazines of various weapons, two radio sets, and other war-like stores. The recovered items have been handed over to Manipur Police.
In a separate operation, a combined security force conducted a cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Malom Hawairou areas of Bishnupur District on Friday from 6:30 am to 8:05 am. The operation, supervised by the SP Bishnupur, involved a joint team comprising the Bishnupur SDPO, Nambol Police, two teams from the Bishnupur CDO, and a platoon of the G-69 Battalion CRPF currently deployed at the Molom Oil Depot.
During the CASO, the joint team verified 150 individuals from 60 houses. No seizures or arrests were made during this operation.
