Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Manipur have called for the immediate release of all captives to prevent the outbreak of a civil war in the state. In a joint statement, the CSOs emphasized that the escalating violence and ongoing hostage situations are pushing Manipur towards a severe internal conflict.

The statement, issued by prominent CSOs including the United Naga Council (UNC), All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), and the Naga Women’s Union (NWU), highlighted the urgent need for dialogue and reconciliation. The organizations urged both the state and central governments to take decisive action to secure the release of captives and ensure the safety of all residents.

The CSOs expressed concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Manipur, citing recent incidents of violence and abductions that have heightened tensions between various communities. They warned that failure to address these issues could lead to further instability and potential civil war.

The organizations also called for the establishment of a neutral peace committee to mediate between conflicting parties and facilitate negotiations. They stressed the importance of restoring peace and harmony in Manipur through non-violent means and constructive dialogue.

The appeal from Manipur’s CSOs comes amid ongoing efforts by the government to restore normalcy in the region. The call for the release of captives and the prevention of civil war underscores the critical need for immediate and effective measures to address the crisis in Manipur.
