The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Tuesday issued a stern rebuke to the state government, criticizing its alleged failure to enhance security measures despite intelligence warnings of imminent militant attacks in Jiribam.
The MPCC accused the administration of diverting attention from critical security concerns by engaging in baseless propaganda against the Congress party.
According to the MPCC, Chief Minister N Biren has been making unfounded accusations against the Congress, alleging that the party conspired with the Kuki community to promise a separate administration during the recently concluded 2024 Parliamentary elections.
Speaking to the media at Congress Bhawan in Imphal, CLP leader O Ibobi Singh strongly condemned the recent ambush on the chief minister’s advance security convoy in Jiribam, highlighting the government’s failure to act on prior intelligence warnings.
“It is a total failure of law and order,” Ibobi reiterated, emphasizing the need for proactive measures in areas known to be tense.
Ibobi also questioned the government’s priorities, accusing CM Biren of spending time spreading baseless propaganda against the Congress party rather than addressing the state’s urgent issues.
“It is unfortunate that the chief minister has always attempted to target the Congress party with false propaganda while Manipur has been struggling under hardship for more than a year,” he stated.
Reflecting on the Congress party’s historical commitment to the integrity of Manipur and India, Ibobi recalled a time when the Congress-led central government refused to include Churachandpur in a proposed Greater Mizoram, even at the expense of sacrificing its government in Mizoram.
This, he asserted, stands as a testament to the Congress party’s dedication to maintaining the integrity of Manipur and the nation.
The CLP leader further challenged the Manipur government to provide evidence if it wishes to continue making allegations against the Congress party.
