Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh convened a high-level meeting on Thursday with ministers, MLAs, the chief secretary, security officials, and departmental heads to address the ongoing flood situation in the state. The CM announced that 17 out of 18 breaches in the embankments have been successfully managed.

“Today, I chaired a meeting with Ministers, MLAs, the Chief Secretary, security officials, and department heads to review the flood situation in Manipur and assess the measures being taken to provide aid and support to affected families,” stated the CM on his official Facebook page.

He further noted that “of the 18 breach points in the river embankments, 17 have been sealed, bringing the flooding in surrounding areas under control.” Efforts to close the remaining breach and reinforce the embankments are ongoing, he added.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) reported that the state has intensified its flood control efforts, utilizing all available resources in the wake of Cyclone Remal. Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Manipur Police, Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Fire Service, district administrations, local authorities, and volunteers are actively engaged in rescue operations.

Erosion and sliding at Uchiwa Mayai Leikai and Uchiwa Heisnam Mapa have also been addressed.

Blockages caused by floating vegetation (phumdi) upstream of the Sekmaijing Bridge RBB on the Imphal River have been cleared, according to the DIPR.

The Nambul River also saw water overflow at Moiraningthou Leirak Mapa, Ahanthem Leikai, and Huidrom Leikai D/S Pishumthong Bridge, along with a riverbank breach at Samurou Makha Leikai. Efforts to control and repair these damages are in progress.
