Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has refuted claims that Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga was asked to mediate in the ongoing violence in Manipur. Singh’s clarification comes amid reports suggesting external intervention in the state’s ethnic conflict, which has caused widespread unrest since May 3, 2023.

Chief Minister Singh addressed the media to debunk recent reports that indicated Mizoram CM Zoramthanga had been approached to mediate in the conflict. Singh asserted that the Manipur government is fully capable of managing the situation through its internal mechanisms and stressed the importance of accurate information. He urged the public to disregard unfounded rumors that could exacerbate the situation.

The Manipur government has been actively working to restore peace and order in the state. Efforts include deploying additional security forces, providing aid to displaced families, and initiating dialogue with community leaders to address underlying issues. Singh emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents.

The violence in Manipur, which erupted in early May, has its roots in longstanding ethnic tensions and demands for greater autonomy by certain groups. The conflict has led to significant displacement and has posed challenges for the state administration in maintaining law and order. The government’s efforts have focused on both immediate relief and long-term resolution strategies.

In response to the displacement caused by the violence, the government has established numerous relief camps and temporary shelters. Financial aid has been distributed to affected families, and housing support measures are in place to assist those who have lost their homes. These efforts aim to provide immediate relief and support the rebuilding process for affected communities.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s clarification aims to dispel misinformation and reassure the public of the government’s capacity to handle the crisis. The Manipur government remains dedicated to restoring peace and stability while addressing the root causes of the conflict. Accurate information and community cooperation are crucial in achieving long-term resolution and harmony in the region.
