Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced on Tuesday that the state government will implement necessary measures to address the recent drone attacks by Kuki militants. He condemned these attacks as acts of terrorism against the indigenous population.

The violence began on Sunday when Kuki militants carried out an unprecedented drone bombing at Koutruk village in Imphal West district, resulting in the death of one woman and injuries to 16 others. The following day, another drone attack at Senjam Chirang, a neighboring village, injured three more individuals.

On Monday, Kuki militants targeted an Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) post at Meikan near Sinam in Imphal East district, using drones and mortars. They stole three assault rifles, including an AK-47, an INSAS rifle, and an INSAS Light Machine Gun (LMG) from the post.

In response, Manipur Police, in coordination with central security forces, seized a drone along with arms, ammunition, and explosives from Kharam Vaiphei in Kangpokpi district, a Kuki-dominated area.

Chief Minister Singh expressed strong condemnation of the attacks via X, stating that drone bombings on civilians and security forces constitute terrorism. He emphasized the government’s commitment to responding effectively to these assaults and denounced all forms of violence.

Director General of Police (DGP) Rajiv Singh, accompanied by senior police officials, visited the attack sites in Kadangband, Koutruk, and Senjam Chirang to assess the situation.

In reaction, Works Minister Govindas Konthoujam, a BJP MLA in the Biren-led government, criticized the attacks on social media, equating the terror faced in Manipur to threats against national sovereignty. He urged India to rise to the challenge and ensure the safety and peace of its people.
