Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh reaffirmed his unwavering stance on the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the state’s aggressive anti-drug policies during a recent address. Singh emphasized that there will be no compromise on these crucial issues, which are pivotal to ensuring the state’s security and social integrity.
During his speech, Chief Minister Singh lauded the Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) community for supporting the implementation of the NRC in Manipur. He expressed that this move is a significant step towards achieving lasting peace and stability in the region. Singh urged the Kuki community to engage in open dialogue with the government to address any concerns regarding the NRC’s execution, ensuring that it aligns with constitutional provisions.
Chief Minister Singh also highlighted the ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign, which has seen substantial progress since its inception in 2017. The campaign has resulted in over 2,500 arrests and the seizure of vast quantities of illicit substances, including heroin, brown sugar, and methamphetamine. Additionally, significant strides have been made in reducing poppy cultivation, with thousands of acres of illegal crops destroyed.
Singh emphasized that the fight against drug-related activities would continue with full vigor. He assured that his administration’s actions are not targeted at any specific community but are aimed at eradicating illegal activities, including drug trafficking, unauthorized poppy cultivation, and deforestation.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the support from various communities in Manipur, including the Maram Naga community and village leaders from different districts, who have pledged to combat drug trafficking and illegal activities in their areas. Singh appealed for continued community cooperation to ensure the success of these initiatives.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s firm stance on the NRC and anti-drug policies underscores his administration’s commitment to maintaining law and order in Manipur. The ongoing efforts and community involvement are pivotal in creating a safer and more secure environment for the state’s future.
