Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh met with Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at Raj Bhavan on Tuesday to discuss the state’s law and order situation, as well as overall security measures. This meeting marked the first official interaction between Singh and Acharya since the latter assumed office as Governor of Manipur. During the meeting, the Chief Minister provided a comprehensive briefing on the state’s administration and the ongoing efforts to maintain peace and security.
Governor Acharya emphasized the importance of maintaining public safety and directed the Chief Minister to ensure the well-being of the state’s residents.
In a related development, SSP Thoubal District Rakesh Balwal also met with Governor Acharya to report on the security situation in Thoubal. Balwal outlined the various measures implemented to safeguard the district and prevent any untoward incidents.
The Governor also received a delegation from Ukhrul district, led by Kisan Morcha president Mayonpam Gachui, who presented the grievances of the district’s residents. The delegation highlighted issues related to connectivity, infrastructure, education, and healthcare, with a particular focus on the deteriorating condition of the Imphal-Ukhrul road, which has negatively impacted the district’s socio-economic conditions. In response, Governor Acharya assured the delegation that he would visit Ukhrul in mid-September to assess the situation personally.
In another engagement, officials from the Manipur Amateur Boxing Association (AMBA) called on Governor Acharya to invite him as the Chief Guest for the closing ceremony of the 2nd Governor’s Cup Boxing Championship, scheduled for September 29. During the meeting, the Governor handed over a cheque of Rs 1,00,000 to the association and pledged continued support from Raj Bhavan for the development of sports in the state. He also extended his best wishes to Indian boxing representatives N Robash Meitei and L Bidya Devi, who are participating in the ongoing ASBC Asian School Boys and Girls Boxing Championship in Abu Dhabi, which runs until September 10.
