On August 26, 2024, around 11 PM, the residence of Michael Lamjathang Haokip, spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Manipur, was attacked by unidentified armed miscreants suspected to be linked to Kuki militants. The incident occurred at Peniel Veng, near Koita Village, under Churachandpur Police Station.

According to sources, the attackers vandalized and set ablaze household properties within Haokip’s house. They also fired several rounds of bullets before leaving the scene. The attack reportedly followed Haokip’s participation in a televised panel discussion about Kuki supremacy.

The Thadou Community International (TCI) condemned the attack, labeling it as cowardly and barbaric. This incident marks the second attack on Haokip’s residence, with a previous assault occurring on May 6, 2023.

The police have registered a case and investigations are underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The TCI has called for immediate legal actions against those involved and urged the government to address the continued violence faced by the Thadou community.
