The Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR) and the Liangmai Pui Naga Ruangdi (LPNR) have strongly condemned an assault on six women and two men in Maremei Liangmai village, Senapati district. The incident occurred on January 12, 2025, at approximately 7 p.m.
According to a joint press release by LNKR and LPNR, the attack was allegedly orchestrated by RK Remping and his grandsons, with the involvement of members of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (Isak-Muivah) [NSCN (IM)]. The victims were reportedly subjected to severe physical assault, including beatings with cane sticks, weapon butts, and kicks, resulting in serious injuries and trauma. Additionally, the assailants allegedly subjected the victims to degrading treatment and sexual harassment, threatening them with loaded weapons.
Post-assault, the attackers reportedly denied the victims immediate medical attention. It was only after intervention by the Naga People’s Organisation (NPO) that the victims were transported to Senapati Hospital for treatment. One critically injured individual was later transferred to Raj Medicity in Imphal for advanced care.
The LNKR and LPNR have called for the immediate arrest of RK Remping, his grandsons, and the NSCN (IM) cadres involved. They are demanding a fair and impartial inquiry into the assault and alleged sexual harassment to ensure accountability and prevent future incidents. The organizations also emphasize the need for comprehensive support—physical, emotional, and mental—for the survivors to aid in their recovery.
Highlighting that violence against women constitutes a crime against humanity, the Liangmai bodies urge the State Government, law enforcement agencies, Naga civil society organizations, and the public to condemn the act and take collective responsibility to ensure justice is served. They reaffirm their solidarity with the victims and their families, vowing to pursue the matter until justice is achieved.
