In a late-night incident on August 10, Kuki militants launched a bomb attack from S Nabin hill targeting the Moirang Oksongbung area under the jurisdiction of Moirang Police Station in Bishnupur district, Manipur. The attack, which took place around 11:50 PM, saw the militants firing approximately three bombs. Fortunately, the explosives failed to reach their intended targets, and no immediate casualties were reported.
Upon learning of the attack, a quick response team from the 5 Sikh Regiment was dispatched to the area. As the troops arrived at the scene, they encountered a fierce confrontation with the Kuki militants. The ensuing firefight, marked by heavy gunfire, lasted for approximately 30 minutes. Despite the intense exchange, the Kuki militants managed to retreat, using the cover of darkness to escape the area.
The 5 Sikh Regiment, led by a major, subsequently took control of the area and initiated a search operation. The operation was conducted in the surrounding regions of Bunglon and Nabin. During this operation, the security forces successfully located and dismantled eight bunkers used by the militants. The removal of these bunkers is expected to disrupt the militants’ operational capabilities in the region.
In a related security effort, a combined team of Imphal West Commando and Border Security Force conducted a combing operation on August 11. This operation was part of a broader initiative by the District Police Imphal West, aimed at ensuring safety ahead of the August 15 Independence Day celebrations. The operation took place from 9 AM to 11 AM at Koutruk Ching Leikai, within the area of Lamsang Police Station.
Under the supervision of SP Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta, the security personnel verified the identities and backgrounds of families residing in 30 houses during this operation. The authorities reported that the combing operation proceeded without any incidents or arrests.
This series of security operations underscores the ongoing efforts by the Indian armed forces and police to maintain order and counter militant activities in the region. The situation remains under close monitoring as security forces continue their efforts to ensure the safety and stability of the area.
