In an unexpected twist, the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills has advised its Kuki community members in Sadar Hills to refrain from engaging in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.
As the paramount authority for the Kuki community, the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills issued a compelling decree urging all Kuki residents in Sadar Hills to abstain from participating in the imminent Lok Sabha Election, emphasizing their resolute stance and solidarity.
The Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills clarified that their stance on the Lok Sabha Polls is not one of “boycott” but rather a choice to “refrain from voting.”
According to the Department of Information and Publicity statement from the Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills, efforts were made to select a consensus candidate among the four candidates in the outer Manipur PC due to the absence of a candidate from the Kuki-Zo community in the 18th Lok Sabha Election. However, this proved unsuccessful.
Consequently, in collaboration with all stakeholders, as recognized by the Kuki Inpi Manipur, a unanimous decision was reached to abstain from voting in the forthcoming election.
There are four candidates for the II-Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, which includes BJP-backed NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik, Congress candidate Alfred Kanngam Arthur, and two Independent candidates – S Kho John and Alyson Abonmai.
Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District, with a voter population exceeding one lakh, is scheduled to participate in the initial phase of elections on April 19 as part of the Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency.
The Kuki Inpi Sadar Hills also instructed all village chiefs and Kuki-Zo individuals to comply with the collective resolution of abstaining from voting.
