U.S. Vice President JD Vance is on a four-day visit to India, focusing on advancing bilateral trade discussions and strengthening diplomatic ties. Accompanied by his wife, Usha Vance, and their children, the family has been warmly received, with cultural engagements including a visit to Jaipur’s Amer Fort and the Swaminarayan Akshardham temple in Delhi.
On Monday evening, Vance met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi. Their discussions centered on progressing towards a bilateral trade agreement, aiming to bolster economic cooperation and address tariff concerns. Both leaders emphasized the importance of collaboration in sectors such as energy, defense, and advanced technology, and agreed on the necessity of peaceful dialogue in resolving global and regional issues.
India is keen to finalize a trade pact with the U.S. to avoid impending tariffs and enhance its economic partnership with the Trump administration. The proposed agreement seeks to modernize trade relations, support job growth, and improve the livelihoods of citizens in both countries.
The Vance family’s itinerary includes visits to iconic landmarks like the Taj Mahal in Agra. They are scheduled to depart India on Thursday morning.
