The INDIA Bloc in Manipur has raised serious allegations against Chief Minister N Biren Singh, questioning his influence over Civil Society Organisations. Bloc convenor Ksh Shanta accused the chief minister of spreading falsehoods and labeled him a liar.
During a press conference on Sunday at Congress Bhawan, Shanta highlighted that June 29 marks the anniversary of the chief minister’s resignation drama, which saw a significant turnout of women in the secure (green) zone.
Shanta pointed out that the chief minister had not actually convened an all-party meeting as claimed. Instead, the meeting took place by appointment, misleading the public about its nature.
“Recent exclusions of the chief minister from key meetings with senior bureaucrats and military officials, including Amit Shah, signal his waning influence due to misinformation,” Shanta said.
The INDIA Bloc and other political leaders, including those from the BJP, had requested a meeting with the Prime Minister. However, Shanta alleged that the chief minister insisted on meeting the Prime Minister only with his preferred MLAs. Additionally, Shanta questioned the chief minister’s potential control over civil society groups and student organizations in the state.
Shanta also disclosed that during a meeting with the Governor of Manipur, the INDIA Bloc leaders were informed of the Prime Minister’s busy schedule.
According to Shanta, the chief minister is fearful of central leaders, seeks to divide political parties, and has not fulfilled his promises. “He is a liar,” Shanta declared.
CPI leader Sotinkumar also criticized the Prime Minister’s silence on the Manipur issue and described the recent elections as a setback for the ruling BJP and its NDA allies. He stressed the importance of effective dialogue to address the state’s current crisis and grievances.
