The second edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival (EIIFF) is scheduled to be held in Imphal, Manipur, from February 6 to February 9, 2025. The festival, which has grown in prominence since its debut in 2023, aims to provide a platform for showcasing diverse cinematic works while promoting cultural exchange and appreciation for regional films.

The upcoming festival will feature 57 films from nine countries, offering a rich mix of international and regional cinema. This year’s selections include notable Manipuri classics, which hold significant cultural value for the local audience. Screenings will be conducted at four prominent venues across Imphal, ensuring accessibility for attendees and enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Organizers have also opened submissions to filmmakers from across the globe, inviting participation in various competitive and non-competitive categories. The selection process aims to highlight creative storytelling, innovative filmmaking techniques, and culturally resonant narratives.

The EIIFF is envisioned as a celebration of global cinema with a particular emphasis on regional storytelling. By integrating films from different parts of the world alongside local productions, the festival serves as a bridge for cultural dialogue and artistic collaboration. According to organizers, the festival seeks to position Imphal as a burgeoning hub for international film festivals, fostering greater recognition of Manipuri cinema on the global stage.

The inaugural edition of the EIIFF in 2023 was lauded for its successful execution and positive reception from audiences and filmmakers alike. It provided a unique opportunity for local artists to share their work with a wider audience while introducing Manipuri cinema to the international community.

This year’s event builds on the momentum of its predecessor, with organizers aiming to attract a larger audience, including film enthusiasts, industry professionals, and media representatives. Efforts have been made to enhance the programming and logistics of the festival to ensure a seamless and enriching experience for all participants.

The EIIFF’s return underscores the growing importance of cinema as a medium for cultural representation and dialogue in Manipur. By creating a space for diverse voices and perspectives, the festival not only enriches the cultural fabric of the region but also contributes to its creative economy.

As preparations continue, the EIIFF is expected to draw attention from both domestic and international audiences, further solidifying its role as a vital cultural event in India’s northeastern region. Organizers remain optimistic about the festival’s potential to inspire future collaborations and elevate the global standing of Manipuri and Indian cinema.

The second edition of the Eikhoigi Imphal International Film Festival promises to be a landmark event in Manipur’s cultural calendar, bringing together filmmakers, audiences, and stakeholders in a celebration of storytelling and cinematic excellence. With a strong lineup of films and a growing reputation, the EIIFF is poised to leave a lasting impact on the world of cinema.
