The women’s civil society organization, Imagi Meira, has issued a stern ultimatum to Chief Minister N Biren Singh, urging him to address the ongoing violence in Manipur effectively or resign from his post. The demand comes in response to the recent abduction of six individuals, including three minors, by Kuki militants in Jiribam.

During a press conference at the Manipur Press Club on Tuesday, Imagi Meira convenor Th Sujata expressed deep dissatisfaction with the state government’s handling of the crisis. Sujata emphasized the urgent need for decisive action to rescue the abducted individuals and criticized the perceived lack of unity and effective response among the state’s political leadership.

“Be a chief minister of Manipur or resign,” Sujata asserted, highlighting the frustration of the community with the ongoing violence and the government’s inaction. She urged the 19 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) to take a clear stand on the issue and work towards resolving the conflict.

Sujata called for political unity, stressing that the current division among politicians is detrimental to the state’s stability. She criticized the politicians for engaging in blame games instead of working together to find a solution to the violence that has plagued Manipur.

“All politicians or political party representatives who appeared on TV discussions disclosed their true nature of not saving Manipur,” Sujata said. She further urged the MLAs to present the facts to the central government in Delhi and seek immediate intervention to restore peace in the state.

In her address, Sujata also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to direct his attention to the plight of the people of Manipur. She expressed confidence in Modi’s ability to mediate and resolve conflicts and urged him to apply those skills to the current crisis in Manipur.

“We all know that Prime Minister Modi has the ability to mediate and resolve issues in many countries. Now, it is time to use that skill to save Manipur,” she added.

The call from Imagi Meira underscores the growing frustration among the people of Manipur with the ongoing violence and the perceived inaction of their political leaders. As the situation remains tense, the organization has given the government a seven-day ultimatum to take concrete steps towards resolving the crisis or face intensified demands for change.
