A grenade attack in Srinagar’s bustling Hari Singh High Street market area on Sunday resulted in injuries to five individuals, igniting concerns over security in Jammu and Kashmir. The attack has been condemned by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who described the incident as “deeply disturbing.”

The grenade was hurled at around 11:30 AM, causing chaos and panic among the market-goers. The explosion left five people, including a woman and a child, injured. They were quickly rushed to the nearby Shri Maharaja Hari Singh (SMHS) Hospital where they are receiving treatment. The injured have been identified as local residents, and their conditions are reported to be stable.

Following the attack, security forces swiftly cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. The police have increased security in the region and are investigating the incident to identify those responsible. A high alert has been issued across Srinagar, with intensified patrolling and surveillance to prevent any further attacks.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his distress over the incident, emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures to protect civilians. “The grenade attack in Srinagar is deeply disturbing. My thoughts are with the injured and their families. We must strengthen our efforts to ensure the safety and security of our people,” he stated. Abdullah also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

This attack highlights the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, a region that has witnessed sporadic violence despite efforts to maintain peace. Grenade attacks and militant activities have been a persistent issue, posing significant risks to civilians and security personnel alike. The government has been working to curb such incidents through increased security deployments and intelligence operations.

The grenade attack in Srinagar underscores the fragile security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. As authorities work to bring the culprits to justice, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges in ensuring the safety of the region’s residents. The state government, along with security forces, continues to emphasize the importance of vigilance and community cooperation in preventing future attacks.

Authorities have appealed to the public to provide any information that could assist in the investigation, assuring that their identities will be kept confidential. The state remains on high alert as the search for those responsible continues.
