On Monday, the Special Judge (POCSO) in Imphal West ordered a 25-year-old man to be held in police custody for five days, until June 14, in connection with a sexual assault case involving a minor.
The accused, identified as Md Doulat, son of Md Khan from Bishnupur Muslim Leikai and currently residing in Uripok Huidrom Leikai, Imphal West, is the stepfather of the minor victim. He was arrested on June 9, 2024.
According to police records, the superintendent of a children’s home filed a complaint stating that a 16-year-old girl had been sexually assaulted by her stepfather at a rented house in Uripok Yambem Leikai.
The child, who has endured multiple past traumas, was initially reluctant to share her experience. However, after nearly two years of building trust, she eventually disclosed her ordeal.
The current whereabouts of the victim’s mother are unknown, and the victim has been residing at the children’s home since 2022.
The police requested five days of custody to gather more information. After considering the request, the court approved the man’s detention.
