In a move that has left thousands of households in Manipur without access to cooking gas, LPG dealers in the state have stopped supply, citing rampant extortion demands and safety concerns.
The dealers, who gathered at Keishampat Leimajam Leikai Community Hall in Imphal, said they were being forced to pay exorbitant amounts to various groups, making it impossible for them to continue their business. They also expressed fear for their safety, citing instances of ambushes and attacks on LPG tankers.
The stoppage of LPG supply has caused widespread inconvenience to the public, with many households struggling to cook meals. The dealers have appealed to the authorities to intervene and resolve the issue at the earliest.
The crisis has been exacerbated by disturbances and blockades along National Highways in Manipur, which have disrupted the supply chain and made it difficult for LPG to reach the state.
The dealers are demanding adequate security, compensation for the risks they face, and an end to the extortion demands. They have also sought the government’s intervention to restore the supply chain and ensure the safety of their personnel.
The situation is being closely monitored, and efforts are being made to find a solution to the crisis.
