A woman and her three young children died early Friday morning when the roof of their home collapsed in the Najafgarh area of Delhi amid a severe thunderstorm. The incident occurred during strong winds that uprooted a nearby tree, which fell on the structure. The woman’s husband was injured.
The collapse took place around 5:30 a.m. in Kharkhari Nagar village, Jafarpur Kalan. According to police, the family was inside a room near a tubewell when the tree fell, causing the roof to give way. Emergency services responded promptly, but the woman and her children were pronounced dead at the scene. The injured husband was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Authorities recovered the bodies and sent them for postmortem examination. An investigation has been launched to assess the structural vulnerability and determine the precise cause of the collapse. No official comment has yet been issued by senior district officials.
The storm affected large parts of Delhi, bringing strong winds, rain, and significant disruption. Over 100 flights at the Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed, with several diverted. Waterlogging and fallen trees led to traffic congestion across the city.
The incident has drawn attention to the risks posed by unstable structures during extreme weather conditions, particularly in densely populated areas with vulnerable housing.
