The Manipur government has announced a relaxation of the curfew in Imphal East and Imphal West districts, allowing residents to move freely from 5 AM to 8 PM on Wednesday. This decision was made in light of the improving law and order situation in these areas.
According to the latest orders from the district magistrates, the curfew has been temporarily lifted to facilitate the public in purchasing essential items such as food and medicines. However, this relaxation does not apply to large gatherings, protests, or rallies without prior permission from the competent authorities. Essential services including health, electricity, water supply, municipal services, media, and transportation to and from the airport are exempt from the curfew restrictions beyond the specified relaxation period.
The curfew was initially imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, restricting the movement of individuals outside their residences due to concerns over public safety and order. These restrictions have been in place since early September and are reviewed regularly based on the prevailing conditions.
Officials have stressed that while the relaxation aims to ease daily activities and allow residents to procure necessary supplies, all precautions must still be observed to prevent any unlawful activities. The authorities remain vigilant and any violations during the relaxation period will be dealt with strictly.
The curfew relaxation in Imphal East and West is a significant step towards normalcy, reflecting the government’s confidence in the improved security situation. Residents are advised to make use of this period responsibly while adhering to the guidelines set forth by the authorities.
