Pallab Sen Gupta, the national secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), expressed serious concerns on Tuesday about the political situation in Manipur, firmly rejecting proposals for administrative division by certain groups.
Speaking at a press conference held at Irawat Bhawan in Imphal, Sen Gupta highlighted the complex and debilitating political and social issues afflicting Manipur. He pointed out the central government’s efforts to prevent further unrest in the state.
“We had a meeting with the state unit to discuss the situation in Manipur. The people of Manipur have become refugees in their own land, and a permanent solution is urgently needed,” he said.
He also questioned why the chief minister has not resigned despite the significant loss in the Lok Sabha elections.
On the other hand, Sen Gupta expressed gratitude to all INDIA Bloc workers for their efforts in securing a substantial victory.
“The bloc could have won at the national level if proper seat sharing had been implemented,” he added.
Sen Gupta called for a permanent solution that safeguards the unity and territorial integrity of Manipur, strongly opposing the idea of multiple autonomous administrative entities within the state.
“We must protect the current Manipur. Nonetheless, a permanent solution is necessary,” he said. He also emphasized the importance of re-evaluating the concepts surrounding Manipur’s merger with India.
