The Women’s Wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI), along with Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham and Saktam Kanba Lup, has issued a strong demand that all MLAs and ministers must travel to Jiribam by Tuesday to address the escalating crisis there.
The women’s groups have also warned that if the MLAs and ministers fail to resolve the Jiribam issue by the deadline, they should resign.
Speaking to the media at Khwairamband Ima Market on Monday, Wahengbam Luwangleima, assistant coordinator of COCOMI’s women’s wing, expressed concern over the government’s lack of action. She noted that displaced residents from Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Moreh are still unable to return to their homes.
“In a similar manner, the Kuki narco-terrorists are now targeting Jiribam,” Luwangleima stated.
She further highlighted that the Chief Minister’s advanced security team was attacked today. “If the MLAs and ministers do not go to Jiribam by tomorrow to resolve the issue, COCOMI, with public support, will intensify the agitation. The government will be held solely responsible for any unwanted incidents,” she warned.
Luwangleima also accused Assam Rifles of evacuating Jiribam residents and aiding in the burning of their homes.
“We will be launching a protest to declare our dissociation from India,” she added.
Thingujam Rani, Secretary of Khwairamband Nupi Keithel Sinpham and Saktam Kanba Lup, pointed out that the Manipur crisis has persisted for over a year. She criticized both the state and central governments for their failure to take decisive action against the Kuki narco-terrorists, which has kept Manipur in turmoil.
Rani suggested that the central government’s divide-and-rule strategy appears to be aimed at marginalizing the Meitei people.
“The leaders of Manipur must take unified steps to save the state and its indigenous population. If they fail to find a solution, they should resign,” Rani declared.
