Assam Rifles has firmly denied recent allegations from Naga civil bodies and organizations regarding the presence of illegal immigrants in Manipur.
These organizations from Nagaland had earlier submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Amit Shah, demanding the repatriation of illegal migrants and fugitives from Myanmar. They also called for the withdrawal of Assam Rifles from the Indo-Myanmar border regions, particularly around Kamjong in Manipur.
The memorandum was collectively submitted by the United Naga Council (UNC), Naga Women’s Union (NWU), All Naga Students Association Manipur (ANSAM), and Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights (NPM-HR).
In a letter addressing these claims, Assam Rifles stated, “In the area extending from BP 82 to 89, some refugees have indeed sought shelter due to the conflict in Myanmar. However, they are repatriated as soon as the security situation improves across the IMB. The accommodation for these refugees consists of basic thatched huts with polythene covers.”
Furthermore, Assam Rifles emphasized that the State Administration is fully aware of the refugees’ presence and has collected their biometric data. The letter added, “There is proper coordination between the Security Forces and the State Administration regarding security. Security Forces maintain a vigilant presence and actively manage the border area to prevent any unlawful activities.”
