Alliance Air, a regional carrier, has announced new flight services connecting Imphal, Dimapur, and Guwahati, marking a significant step in improving air connectivity across the northeastern region. The new routes are scheduled to commence operations on January 15, 2025, with flights being offered thrice weekly.
The introduction of this service by Alliance Air aims to address long-standing connectivity challenges faced by travelers in Manipur and Nagaland. The route structure will connect key regional hubs, facilitating trade, tourism, and personal travel. According to the airline, flights will operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Flight 9I 741 will depart Guwahati at 8:00 a.m., arrive in Dimapur at 8:55 a.m., and then continue to Imphal, reaching its destination by 10:10 a.m. The return service, flight 9I 742, is scheduled to depart from Imphal at 10:35 a.m., arriving in Dimapur at 11:25 a.m., and subsequently returning to Guwahati at 12:45 p.m.
Officials from the Ministry of Civil Aviation underscored the importance of the new service in promoting economic growth in the northeastern states. By reducing travel times and offering affordable fares capped at ₹5,000, the flights are expected to benefit local businesses, boost tourism, and improve access for residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh highlighted the positive impact of enhanced connectivity on the region. “This new air service will provide an affordable and reliable mode of transport, opening up opportunities for trade and tourism in Manipur and beyond,” he stated.
Imphal Airport, which currently serves airlines like IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express, will see an increase in traffic with the addition of Alliance Air. Dimapur Airport, located in Nagaland, is one of the few operational airports in the state, playing a crucial role in connecting Nagaland to the rest of the country.
The new services align with the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s regional connectivity scheme, Ude Desh Ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN), which aims to make air travel accessible and affordable for citizens in underserved and unserved areas.
The northeastern states, known for their unique cultural heritage and scenic landscapes, have long faced logistical challenges due to their geographical isolation. Efforts to enhance transportation infrastructure, including the expansion of air routes, are part of the government’s broader strategy to integrate the region more closely with the national economy.
Alliance Air’s new service also reflects a growing demand for improved travel options in the region. Passenger traffic at northeastern airports has been steadily increasing, driven by both local and international tourism.
The launch of Alliance Air’s flights connecting Imphal, Dimapur, and Guwahati represents a significant development for air travel in the Northeast. By providing reliable, affordable, and efficient transport, the initiative is set to strengthen regional ties, foster economic growth, and enhance access to one of India’s most vibrant yet remote areas. Residents and travelers alike are expected to benefit from this enhanced connectivity, marking a milestone in the region’s development.
