As of July 1, 2024, major rivers in Imphal district are nearing flood levels, according to reports.

The India Meteorological Department’s latest Special Weather Bulletin, dated July 1, 2024, forecasts heavy to very heavy rainfall across Manipur in the coming five days.

Continuous rain has been recorded in the catchment areas of key rivers like the Imphal River and Nambul River.

In light of these developments, residents living near river fronts, banks, or in close proximity to watercourses are advised to stay vigilant for potential breaches of riverbanks, embankments, or overflow incidents.

Authorities urge the public to promptly notify government offices, including the DC Office, police stations, and the Water Resource Department, of any concerns to ensure timely intervention and protection of life and property.

Earlier in June, the Manipur government announced immediate relief of Rs 10,000 per flood-affected family, as confirmed by officials.

This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister N Biren Singh on a Thursday evening.

The meeting also addressed various state issues and resolved to establish a cabinet sub-committee dedicated to rehabilitating and resettling internally displaced persons (IDPs) affected by ethnic conflicts.

In late May, more than 1.88 lakh people and over 24,000 houses in Imphal Valley were affected by floods caused by breaches in river embankments following heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Remal.
